Slovenia vignette height classes: why your SUV is not “just a car”
How DARS splits 2A and 2B, what happens if you guess wrong, and how motorcycles fit in.
The height split
For vehicles under 3.5 t, Slovenia distinguishes 2A vs 2B using height at the front axle (not “how tall the roof box feels”). Many estate cars stay in 2A; a lot of SUVs, vans, and campers land in 2B with a higher tariff.
Why guessing is expensive
If cameras estimate 2B but you bought 2A, expect penalties and buying the correct product again. When in doubt, check the registration dimensions and the operator’s measurement diagrams — do not rely on forum anecdotes.
Weekly-style products
Retailers often label a “10-day” style product where the underlying operator window is seven calendar days for the Slovenian network. The checkout explains the exact validity window for the product you select.
Motorcycles
Bikes have a separate lighter category where toll applies. Link the vignette to the bike plate, not the car you left at home.
Trailers and combinations
Car + trailer combinations may need more than one entitlement depending on weight and axles. If you tow even a small box trailer on motorways, read the combination rules once — it is cheaper than a roadside lesson.
Border approach
If you only clip a short tolled stub near the border, you still need coverage for that stub. “I was only on it for two minutes” is not a defence — buy before merging.
